Emma Stone shouted out Greta Gerwig while presenting for Best Director

Greta Gerwig didn't take home the Oscar for Best Director during Sunday night's Academy Awards. That honor went to Guillermo Del Toro for The Shape of Water. 

But before opening the envelope, presenter Emma Stone gave Gerwig a shoutout for her role as the sole woman nominated in the directing category.

"These four men and Greta Gerwig created their own masterpieces this year," she said.

While some praised the line, as many have noted on Twitter, Stone's choice to draw a line between the category's male nominees and Gerwig ignores that two of the men nominated – Jordan Peele and Del Toro – are also people of color.  Read more...
